Family / Group Family Child Care
Family/Group Family Child Care programs are run by one or two providers in their own home or in someone else's residence. Some parents prefer this modality of care for infants and very young children because it offers a home-like environment in a small, mixed-age setting.
Family Child Care
Maximum of six children ages 2 through 12 years, or five children ages 6 weeks through 12 years (only two of which may be under 2 years old). Provider may also be allowed to care for two additional school-age children.
Group Family Child Care
Maximum of 12 children ages 2 through 12 years, or 10 children ages 6 weeks through 12 years (for every two children under 2 years old, there must be one adult). Provider may also be allowed to care for two additional school-age children. In addition to the licensed provider, one full-time assistant is required.
Family/Group Family care may be flexible regarding scheduling needs in terms of possible part-time schedule options, extended hours, weekends, etc. It is also a good option for families who wish to keep their siblings together. Providers are required to take a 15-hour Health and Safety course prior to registration/licensing, as well as a minimum of 30 hours of professional development training every two years.
